Join us in our fight against illiteracy!

  • What is our mission?

Literacy volunteers of Laredo aims to provide various free literacy courses to adults with limited reading, writing, and/or English proficiency skills in pursuit of personal literacy related goals and offers civic courses to those seeking U.S. citizenship.

  • What is our vision?

Literacy Volunteers of Laredo is fighting the illiteracy rate in our community. People need the proper skills to be able to navigate daily occurrences. ELLs need to be able to communicate in their own environment. Texas has the fourth-lowest illiteracy rate of 81.0%, with 19.0% of adults lacking basic prose literacy skills.

  • What do we do to support our mission and vision?

Our non-profit organization consists of staff who recruit, train, and match volunteer tutors with non-reading adults who need individualized basic reading and English as a second language instruction for those who are not native English speakers. We offer club conversational, basic reading, citizenship, health literacy, financial literacy, and digital literacy classes.
